I really liked the character Charly and the way she and her boyfriend Sam Roberts worked things out in New York and traveled back to Salt Lake. 7 out of 11 found this helpful. As many reviewers have mentioned, Heather Beers is the perfect Charly, a wonderful actress deserving of Hollywood fame. "Charly" is also great for its story and screenplay. This movie is just a mellow and boring attempt to "touch the heart of the unfortunate not mormon people". Charly is literally a Mormon "Brian's Song" -- it will be a movie that 20 years from now families will pull out to see for its ability to tug at the heartstrings.
It is a very funny comedy, but it has a dramatic side to it as well. However, if you watch to the end there are some twists (I'm trying not to give too much away) but the focus of the film shifts away from her conversion and the story deepens. An undercover FBI agent falls in love with a recently widowed mafia wife, who is trying to restart her life following her husband's murder while being pursued by a libidinous mafia kingpin seeking to claim her for himself. This was not an LDS movie, this was a love story that was centered around a belief that happened to be LDS. You could easily insert any "faith" into the story and have the same compelling message. She is exceptional -- making the character of Charly come to life. Community (10) Verteilung ansehen . I gave this movie two chances and both times it let me down, even though I wasn't expecting great things from it in any case. Salt Lake actress Heather Beers, in her first film lead, is a major find! It is what it is, and those who enjoys its positive message of faith will certainly enjoy it, while those who shuns such feelings will certainly continue to shun it. Redaktion. Charly is the best LDS film since God's Army opened up a new niche and made LDS film a viable product. With so many of the user reviews gushing with praise, I thought I'd better add a quick negative review; because I found this movie laughable. An absolute win. As a standalone movie, CHARLY is a worthwhile film, with terrific performances by the two young leads. Was this review helpful? The plot is predictable and boring. A real tear-jerker. Oh, and don't forget incest, rape, and gay themes. A woman returns from holiday to find her husband has been murdered, and several groups of people are pressuring her to unravel the mystery of his true identity and activities during his final days. I loved this movie. With Mark Wahlberg, Thandie Newton, Tim Robbins, Olga Sékulic. (Jazz singer) or catholics and we do not say, "awwww that was a Jewish movie".
It helped me to believe that God does hear and answer our prayers and that we shouldn't judge people by the way they look or act. At first she is this oh-my-god!-liberal-sinner-newyorker-nasty-young-girl and then after a week in Salt Lake City with Sam, bam!! Although the female lead's unnatural-sounding dialogue gets a bit tedious in the beginning, her transformation from carefree city girl to worthwhile human being also makes her more affable. What is important here is the power of love and how it can change people. I absolutly love this movie! Cynics may say that the movie intends to tell everyone to join the Mormon Church. She meets a mysterious man, who tells her that the money was really his, and he wants it back, seemingly convinced that she's hiding the cash. This is how I originally envisoned it when I was writing my screenplay." It was a wonderful journey, heart warming and deeply emotional. Which I think turned out to be a very worthy goal. With the aid from a New York City policeman, a top immigrant cop tries to stop drug-trafficking and corruption by immigrant Chinese Triads, but things get complicated when the Triads try to bribe the policeman. It is a remake of Charade (1963) and an homage to François Truffaut's Shoot the Piano Player (1960) complete with the French film star Charles Aznavour, making two appearances singing his song "Quand tu m'aimes" (first in French, later in English). The necessary thing for this one to work was for Heather Beers to deliver a convincing performance as a girl who's a tad flakey, and she sure convinced me! The main character named Sam is a mormon version of Ned Flanders(from the Simpsons), he meets Charlie...who seems to be bipolar. perfect wife gets cancer and dies. Top Kinofilme Deutschland. I however love this movie and think it should at least be given chance. A man joins a group of nomadic con artists in rural North Carolina. This movie based on Jack Weyland's book was very well done and I loved it! You must be a registered user to use the IMDb rating plugin. Then, the part where Sam finds the note Charly wrote to him before she passed away really touched my heart.
