The talents of Damon and Ledger are both squandered here and a lot of the portrayals of both the German and French characters are downright offensive and keep in mind this is even with someone like Jonathan Pryce and Peter Stormare helming some of the supporting cast. Frankly, that's what I liked about them. $15,093,000 October 11, 2005 Gilliam's feverish and fabulous visions for what he hopes to capture on film seem impractical and a little mad at times. But they messed that up too as she unfortunately falls into the cliche as a damsel in distress role; as a result end her character is uneven and yet another unnecessary tangent this movie takes.

Though it was maybe a bit interesting at first, the annoying quirkiness of this film and its characters, combined with the disturbing nature of the settings, makes the viewer want to stop watching after a few minutes. The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm is a 1962 American fantasy film directed by Henry Levin and George Pal. Will (Matt Damon) and Jacob Grimm (Heath Ledger) start off as shysters, bamboozling local town people by setting up elaborate and "supernatural" schemes and charging heavily to ward off monsters, witches or anything else. | Rating: C The confident, poetic handling of myth and archetype in both astonishes.Favorite Heath Ledger Performance (Besides The Joker) | Rating: 2/5 Perfect material, you might think, for Terry Gilliam's brain of perpetual invention.
Like his Baron Munchhausen, Gilliam's Brothers Grimm has been horridly misunderstood by critics and public alike. From bedraggled witches to snarling demonic wolves, “The Brothers Grimm” is entertainment for all those who believe in magic. We've learned to take our fairy tales Disneyfied, apparently. Or at least that's what their clients think has been happening; as it happens, Will and Jake are confidence men who cleverly stage the ghostly attacks and then take payment for making the creatures they fabricated go away.
At the end of the movie when the people are dancing the words 'And they live happily ever after' appear directly followed by a scream of the mirror queen and the words "Well...maybe not"
If your going to make a fantasy film with a worthy director you have to allow it to go somewhere, this doesn't. We won’t be able to verify your ticket today, but it’s great to know for the future.Theater box office or somewhere else Will and Jake Grimm are traveling con-artists who encounter a genuine fairy-tale curse which requires true courage instead of their usual bogus exorcisms. This I find entirely in the grotesque spirit of the original folk tales.
